Emeline Clark Brown was born Jan 12 1832, in Putnam county, N. Y. When a child her parents came west to Bureau county, where she passed her girlhood, and where she was married in 1848 to Samuel Clark. After 13 years of happy married life she was left a widow in Iowa, where she and her husband had moved; and then with six little ones she returend to Illinois. Here she lived until her death, Dec 29, 1895.
The care of her children was her first thought while they were young, and as they grew to manhood and womanhood her dearest wish was that they might show in their lives that regard for right which she had taught them. A consistent member of the Methodist church for 25 years, none could question the integrity of her principles or the purity of her life. Of her seven Children only four were left to attend the mother in her old age, but all that their loving hands could do to make her last days peaceful was done cheerfully and willingly. She spent the last three months of her life with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Hunter of Henry, cheered by frequent visits from h er other children, Mrs. Stephen Freer and William and Nathaniel Clark, all of Princeton; and now when her spirit has passed o a happier life, the memory of her good works will abide with them even unto the end.
On Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock brief services were held at Mr Hunter's, Rev David McLeish officiating. The body was then taken to the 8.10 train for Tiskitwa, where the funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, and then conveyed to Princeton, where the interment took place, the remains being placed beside the husband and one son in the family lot. Mr and Mrs Robert Hunter, and son, Raymond, and Mr and Mrs Hiram Hunter accompanied the casket.
